Why an independent inspection beats a seller's word

Tue 30 Jun 2026 · 1 min read

When a seller offers their own mechanic's report, it is worth asking who that report was really written for.

An independent inspection is arranged and paid for by the buyer, which means the inspector has no stake in the sale going ahead. The findings are honest because there is nothing to gain from glossing over a fault.

That independence is the whole point. You get a clear, unbiased picture of the car so you can negotiate from a position of knowledge, or walk away with confidence.
